Born John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948, in Birmingham, England, Ozzy rose from a working-class background to international stardom as the lead vocalist of Black Sabbath. The band’s dark, heavy sound helped launch the heavy metal genre, beginning with their groundbreaking 1970 debut album. Their follow-ups, including Paranoid and Master of Reality, became blueprints for generations of rock and metal artists.

Ozzy’s life was filled with both triumph and turmoil. After being dismissed from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to substance abuse, he launched a successful solo career. His debut solo album, Blizzard of Ozz, featured hits like “Crazy Train” and “Mr. Crowley,” and cemented his place in rock history.

Behind the scenes, Osbourne battled addiction for much of his career. His erratic behavior made headlines, most notably when he bit the head off a bat during a 1982 concert. Despite these controversies, his raw talent and enduring charisma kept him at the forefront of music culture.

In the early 2000s, Ozzy reinvented himself once again with the reality TV show The Osbournes, which offered a chaotic and humorous glimpse into his family life. The show was a massive hit and introduced him to a new generation of fans.

In later years, Osbourne faced serious health issues, including a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease and multiple surgeries. Despite his struggles, he continued to record and perform when possible. His final studio album was released in 2022.

Ozzy Osbourne is survived by his wife Sharon, and their three children, Kelly, Aimee, and Jack. His influence on music and culture spans generations and genres.
