California residents have a rare opportunity to explore some of the state’s most iconic historic destinations for free.

To celebrate Juneteenth, the 250th anniversary of American independence, and California’s 175th anniversary, California State Parks has released a special edition Historian Passport that provides free admission to more than 30 participating state historic parks across California through December 31, 2026.

The pass normally costs money, but for a limited time California residents can download and claim the special edition version at no cost.

What Does the Pass Include?

According to California State Parks, the pass allows admission for up to four people at participating locations that charge per-person fees. At parks that charge a vehicle day-use fee, the pass covers one vehicle.

Participating locations include:

• Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park
• Fort Ross State Historic Park
• Bodie State Historic Park
• Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park
• Railtown 1897 State Historic Park
• California Mining and Mineral Museum
• State Indian Museum
• And dozens more throughout California

The free pass must be claimed by July 6, 2026, and is valid for use from June 19 through December 31, 2026 at participating California State Historic Parks.
