Hanford, CA – The long-vacant and deteriorating building at 103 North Douty Street is finally being demolished after years of community concern and visible decline. For many in Hanford, this marks a welcome step toward improving the appearance and safety of the downtown area.

According to public records from the City of Hanford, a non-residential demolition permit was issued on September 24, 2025, to David A. Bush, Inc., owned by David Bush. The permit authorizes the removal of a 3,400-square-foot structure and is valid through September 19, 2026. The same contractor held a previous permit for the site in 2022, but work had been delayed until now.

For years, the property had been seen as one of downtown Hanford’s most blighted locations, with visible structural damage and ongoing safety concerns. Crews were recently photographed on-site clearing debris and preparing the lot for full removal.

While the City of Hanford does not control what will be built on the property, the demolition now opens the door for potential collaboration between the city and the property owner to bring new life and opportunity to this central location.

“This site has been a concern for a long time,” one nearby business owner said. “It’s great to finally see progress. Hopefully, this space can be turned into something that benefits downtown and the community.”

The removal of the deteriorated structure represents a visible turning point in ongoing downtown improvement efforts. Residents and local businesses alike are expressing optimism that the cleared space could attract future investment and help strengthen Hanford’s historic core.
