Homeowners across the Central Valley are starting to take notice of a program that could save them thousands, and many still have no idea it exists.
Right now, qualifying SoCalGas customers may be eligible to receive a free tankless water heater installation, replacing outdated systems with modern, high-efficiency units at zero cost.
The program is being carried out locally by Synergy Companies, a Fresno-based contractor working directly with SoCalGas to improve energy efficiency in residential homes.
At the center of this upgrade is the Rinnai 160 tankless water heater, a system designed to heat water only when it is needed. Unlike traditional tank heaters that continuously store and reheat water, these units operate on demand, helping homeowners reduce energy waste and lower their monthly utility bills.
In many cases, the total value of the unit and installation exceeds $4,000, yet qualifying homeowners are currently paying nothing out of pocket.

Homes must already have a traditional tank water heater, and the setup must allow for a standard installation. Most installations take place in garages or near exterior walls where proper venting, gas lines, and drainage can be safely installed.
How the Process Works
The process is designed to be quick and simple:
- A representative visits your home to inspect your current setup
- They confirm if your home qualifies
- Paperwork is submitted and often approved quickly
- Installation is scheduled and completed, usually in just one day
Many homeowners are surprised at how fast the turnaround is, with approvals sometimes happening within 24 hours.
More Than Just a Water Heater
After installation, qualifying homes may also receive free attic insulation upgrades, depending on current conditions. This helps maintain indoor temperatures and increases overall energy efficiency.
