HANFORD, Calif. More than 250 community members gathered Saturday at First Christian Church of Hanford for the church’s inaugural Holistic Health Fair, a free event focused on improving the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of local residents.
Held at 505 W. Cameron Street, the event brought together healthcare providers, nonprofit organizations, community partners, and volunteers with one shared goal: making valuable health resources accessible to everyone.
Throughout the morning, families enjoyed a free breakfast before visiting dozens of informational booths offering health screenings, cancer education, diabetes and hypertension information, mental health resources, Medicare and insurance guidance, financial wellness information, and community support services. A free lunch was also provided for attendees.
Children were not forgotten. Families spent time enjoying games, face painting, healthy snacks, and other kid-friendly activities while parents connected with local organizations offering services designed to improve quality of life.
One of the day’s most impactful attractions was the Central California Blood Center blood drive, where community members stepped forward to donate blood that could help save lives throughout the region. Donors were thanked with complimentary ice cream gift certificates, adding a small reward to an act that could make a life-changing difference.
The educational speaker program featured presentations from several healthcare professionals and organizations, including:
- Dr. Teske, discussing heart health.
- Pam Montgomery of the American Cancer Society, presenting on cancer education and screenings.
- Joyce Glaspie of Visalia Unified School District, speaking about hypertension awareness.
- Swapna Reddy of Hanford Pharmacy, providing diabetes education.
- De Sanchez of Fit Fam Therapy, discussing mental health services.
The event was made possible through a collaborative effort involving numerous organizations, including Adventist Health, Women With Visions Unlimited, Kindred Care, the Hanford Breakfast Lions Club, the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer’s Association, Kaweah Health, the Girl Scouts of Central California South, the Central California Blood Center, and many additional community partners and volunteers.
Prior to the event, Pastor Patrizia Newton told Kings Network News the health fair was created after local faith leaders recognized that many residents could face challenges accessing healthcare and community resources.
Rather than simply acknowledging those concerns, church leaders chose to become part of the solution.
Judging by Saturday’s turnout, that decision resonated with the community.
The success of the event demonstrated what can happen when churches, healthcare providers, nonprofit organizations, and volunteers work together toward a common purpose. More importantly, it showed that many families are actively seeking opportunities to improve their health and connect with services available right here in Kings County.
If this inaugural event is any indication, First Christian Church of Hanford has a bright future serving the community. Its commitment to caring for residents extends beyond Sunday services by creating meaningful opportunities that address real needs while bringing people together.
Kings Network News looks forward to seeing what future community events and partnerships the church develops in the years ahead.
