From Six Lemonades to a Central Valley Favorite: The Story Behind The Squeeze Squad

By Francisco Ramirez

Success stories often begin with a big idea. For Robert and Lisa Miller, theirs began with a simple question:

What is our community missing?

That question led the couple to create The Squeeze Squad LLC, a family owned business that has become a familiar sight at events across California’s Central Valley. Known for its fresh squeezed lemonade, creative dirty sodas, and welcoming atmosphere, the business has earned a loyal following. But the road to success was anything but easy.

Finding Their Niche

Before launching The Squeeze Squad, Robert operated a small business creating handcrafted soaps, custom T-shirts, and other handmade products. While considering their next venture, he and Lisa wanted to build something they could grow together as a family.

Rather than following what everyone else was doing, they researched local vendors and searched for an underserved market. They found plenty of food vendors, smoothie stands, and aguas frescas, but very few businesses specializing in fresh squeezed lemonade.

That discovery became the foundation of their new business.

We wanted to offer something different,” Robert explained during an interview with Kings Network News.

A Humbling Start

Like many small business owners, the Millers quickly learned that success rarely happens overnight.

Their first event was a difficult one.

After spending hours preparing and serving customers, they sold only six lemonades in nearly four hours.

For many entrepreneurs, that kind of day would be enough to call it quits.

Instead, they viewed it as a learning experience.

They listened to customer feedback, found new opportunities to serve the community, promoted their business online, and prepared for the next event.

The difference was immediate.

At their following events, customers began lining up to try their fresh squeezed lemonade, and social media helped spread the word even further. Before long, people were reaching out through Instagram to ask where The Squeeze Squad would be appearing next.

Learning Every Step of the Way

Starting a mobile beverage business involved far more than creating great drinks.

Robert described spending countless hours researching how to legally establish the company. From obtaining an EIN and forming an LLC to securing permits, food handler certifications, insurance, and health department approvals, every milestone required patience and determination.

Instead of letting the process discourage them, the couple treated each challenge as another lesson.

“It was stressful at times,” Robert shared, “but every step taught us something that helped us build the business the right way.”

Today, The Squeeze Squad is licensed to operate in multiple counties and continues expanding its presence throughout the Central Valley.

Family at the Heart of the Business

While customers often stop for the lemonade, many return because of the people serving it.

The Squeeze Squad remains a family operated business, with everyone pitching in during busy events. Working side by side has created lasting memories while teaching valuable lessons about responsibility, teamwork, customer service, and perseverance.

For Robert and Lisa, the business is also a way to teach their children real life lessons. Their daughter and son have been part of the journey, learning what it takes to show up, work hard, serve people with respect, and keep going even when things are difficult.

Through each event, their children are seeing firsthand that success takes preparation, patience, communication, and consistency. The Millers are not just building a lemonade business. They are building something their family can learn from, grow with, and be proud of.

Running a business together certainly comes with long hours and occasional stress, but the Millers say those experiences have only strengthened their commitment to one another and to serving their community.

More Than a Drink

Whether customers order a classic fresh squeezed lemonade or one of The Squeeze Squad’s popular dirty sodas like Purple Rain, Orange Dreamsicle, Raspberry Cheesecake, Tropical Fusion, or The OG, they’re supporting a business built on hard work, resilience, and family values.

The Millers’ journey serves as a reminder that every successful business starts somewhere. Sometimes, success begins with six sales, a willingness to learn from failure, and the determination to keep showing up.

For aspiring entrepreneurs, their story offers a simple but powerful message: don’t let one difficult day define your future.
