I went into the new Michael movie thinking, “here we go again, another wannabe biopic.” I was wrong.
This movie completely surprised me. I highly recommend going to see it.
I watched it at Regal in Visalia, and quick side note, their popcorn is made with real coconut oil, which is perfect for me since I’m allergic to preservatives. Pro tip: mix M&Ms with your popcorn. Sweet and salty, trust me, it works.
Now the movie…
Colman Domingo, who played Joe Jackson, was incredible, and honestly, I found myself really disliking that character, which shows how powerful his performance was. Jaafar Jackson, playing Michael, was phenomenal. It didn’t feel like acting, it felt real.
This wasn’t just a movie. It felt like a drama, a concert, and a life story all wrapped into one.
I don’t get emotional easily, but I actually teared up. You could feel Michael’s childhood, his struggles, and especially the impact of his mother. It all moved fast, but in a way that kept you completely locked in.
The theater experience said everything. I watched people around me get emotional. One woman even stood up like she was about to go grab popcorn or something, then a powerful moment hit and she just froze… and sat right back down. That’s the kind of impact this movie had.
What stood out the most was who Michael was as a person. The way he cared for kids, the way he gave even when he was hurting. That part hit hard.
For a moment, it felt like everything in the world slowed down. Like things were simpler again.
Only small critique, the monkey was clearly CGI, but that’s understandable.
If you’re going to see any movie in theaters right now, make it this one. I’m even thinking about going again in 4DX in Fresno just to experience it on another level.
⏱️ 2 hours and 10 minutes flew by. That tells you everything.
I won’t spoil the ending, but they left it in a beautiful place. You’ll understand why when you see it.
