HANFORD, CA – A domestic violence call early Thursday morning led to a brief foot pursuit and the arrest of an intoxicated man who admitted to carrying a loaded firearm, according to the Hanford Police Department.

Police say officers were dispatched around 12:14 a.m. on March 5 to the 900 block of Leslie Lane after a neighbor reported hearing a man striking a woman inside a nearby residence.

When officers arrived in the area, they observed two men walking along the north sidewalk of Hanford Armona Road near the reported address. One of the men, later identified as 21 year old Robert Turknett, immediately ran north through a nearby residential complex when officers approached.

Officers pursued Turknett through the complex, and one officer located him a short time later near the 900 block of Leslie Lane. Turknett was ordered to the ground and taken into custody without further incident.

During the investigation, Turknett admitted to officers that he had been carrying a firearm and said he threw the weapon over a fence while running from police. Officers later located the firearm and identified it as a loaded 9 mm Ruger EC9s handgun, which was collected and booked into evidence.

Police also reported that Turknett showed signs of alcohol intoxication, including slurred speech, bloodshot watery eyes, and the smell of alcohol on his breath. He admitted to drinking earlier in the evening.
