Stacy Korsgaden, a candidate for California Insurance Commissioner, appeared as a guest speaker at a 1776 Sons of Liberty meeting held Monday evening in Hanford.
The event brought together local residents, community leaders, and elected officials to hear Korsgaden discuss her background and her plans if elected to the statewide office. The meeting was held in person and also livestreamed on Facebook for public viewing.
Korsgaden shared her professional experience of more than 35 years in the insurance industry, including owning and operating a Farmers Insurance agency. She told attendees that her decision to run for Insurance Commissioner is driven by concerns over rising insurance costs, limited policy availability, and the growing challenges faced by homeowners and businesses across California.
During her presentation, Korsgaden explained the role of the Insurance Commissioner as overseeing insurance companies, licensing agents, and addressing fraud and consumer complaints. She emphasized the need for leadership with direct insurance experience and said the current system can be improved through better oversight and increased competition in the insurance market.
Several local officials and community representatives were in attendance, including Kings County Supervisor Doug Verboon, Lemoore Mayor Patricia Matthews, and former Hanford Mayor Francisco Ramirez.
A question-and-answer session followed her remarks, with attendees raising concerns about wildfire insurance, uninsured motorists, fraud, and the affordability of coverage for families and small businesses. Korsgaden stated that she supports policies aimed at reducing risk, improving access to insurance, and restoring stability to California’s insurance system.
Korsgaden grew up in Visalia and currently resides in Grover Beach. She is a graduate of Cal Poly and is also a licensed financial advisor.
The California Insurance Commissioner is a statewide elected position that oversees the Department of Insurance and plays a key role in regulating insurance companies and protecting consumers throughout the state.
