HANFORD, Calif. (June 30, 2025) — A man suspected of robbery was arrested just steps away from the Hanford Police Department on Monday morning after reportedly stealing a bag of chips and a Snapple drink, then punching a store clerk who tried to stop him.

At approximately 7:40 a.m., officers responded to a call at CA Plaza Liquor located at 600 N. Irwin Street. The store employee told police that a man, later identified as 24-year-old Rayshad Kyles, walked in, took the snack and drink without paying, and assaulted the clerk when confronted outside.

Shortly after the incident was reported, officers spotted Kyles walking in front of the police department. He was wearing black clothing and a red hat, matching the victim’s description. Officers also found him in possession of the stolen items, valued at $5.29.

Police conducted an in-field identification with the victim, who immediately confirmed Kyles as the suspect. The victim also informed officers that Kyles had previously stolen from the store on three or four other occasions.

Kyles was arrested and booked into Kings County Jail on charges of robbery under California Penal Code 211.

According to authorities, this is not Kyles’ first run-in with the law. In 2024, he was arrested in another robbery case involving an assault with a stick after a theft. However, previous charges were reportedly reduced to petty theft.
