HANFORD, Calif. — A Hanford man was arrested Monday evening after police say he stabbed another man during an argument involving alleged counterfeit money.
According to the Hanford Police Department, officers responded around 2 p.m. on March 9 to the 1100 block of Poplar Court after receiving a report of a male who had possibly been stabbed.
When officers arrived, they located the victim suffering from a stab wound. The victim’s condition has not been publicly released.
During the investigation, officers determined the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Travis Hughes, allegedly stabbed the victim following an argument in which the victim accused Hughes of giving him counterfeit money.
Police searched the surrounding area for Hughes but were initially unable to locate him.
Later that evening, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers conducted a surround and call-out at Hughes’ residence in the 1100 block of West Yellowstone Drive. After several announcements from officers, Hughes exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident.
Investigators later served a search warrant at the residence and recovered what is believed to be the weapon used in the assault.
Hughes was transported to the Kings County Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of PC 245(a)(1), assault with a deadly weapon.
