HANFORD, Calif. — Based on the unofficial results released Tuesday night by the Kings County Elections Department, Garrett A. Gilcrease appears to have secured an outright victory in the race for Kings County Supervisor District 1, avoiding the need for a runoff election.
With all six precincts reporting, Gilcrease received 1,361 votes, or 51.05 percent, surpassing the majority threshold needed to win the election. Martin Chavez finished second with 926 votes, or 34.73 percent, while Stefanie Silveira Chavez received 261 votes, or 9.79 percent. A total of 2,548 votes were cast in the contest.
The results show Gilcrease holding a lead of 435 votes over his nearest opponent and earning just over half of all votes cast in the race. If the results remain unchanged through the official canvass process, Gilcrease will be declared the winner without advancing to any additional election.
Voter turnout in District 1 was reported at 25.09 percent, with 2,666 ballots cast out of 10,624 registered voters. Election officials also reported 118 undervotes and no overvotes in the contest.
While election night results provide a strong indication of the outcome, the numbers remain unofficial until certified by county election officials following the canvassing process.
Gilcrease’s apparent victory marks one of the key local races decided in the June 2, 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election in Kings County.
