SANGER — A message of hope and second chances took center stage during a recent community report, as Set Free Sanger shared new milestones in its expanding youth outreach and adult recovery programs.
During the latest Citizens Oversight Committee meeting for Measure S, representatives from Set Free Sanger reported that the organization now serves over 300 youth each month through school-based outreach, mentorship, and gang prevention efforts. Additionally, its adult recovery program has reunited 51 children with their families over the past year—an achievement officials described as a sign of meaningful, lasting impact.
“These aren’t just numbers—these are changed lives,” a Set Free representative said. “People who were once trapped in cycles of addiction or violence are now reconnecting with their kids, holding down jobs, and contributing to our community.”
Founded on a model of faith-based support and accountability, Set Free Sanger has become a key partner in the city’s broader effort to reduce crime, support at-risk youth, and offer alternatives to incarceration. Through its partnership with the Sanger Police Department, Set Free often steps in when officers encounter individuals who could benefit more from services than jail time.
“We work hand-in-hand with law enforcement,” the representative explained. “Our goal is to help—not to punish.”
The organization also provides essential resources like transportation to rehabilitation centers, mentorship for teens, and guidance for individuals leaving jail or detox facilities.
City officials praised Set Free’s work, crediting it as one of the most responsive and results-driven programs funded by Measure S, the voter-approved tax initiative dedicated to enhancing public safety and youth services.
With community needs growing, Set Free Sanger said it hopes to expand its capacity in the coming year, depending on available resources and continued Measure S support.
Do you believe more community-based programs like Set Free can reduce crime and improve lives in Sanger?
