HANFORD, Calif. – A man was arrested Sunday morning after police say he was acting erratically and waving a firearm in a busy shopping area along West Lacey Boulevard.
According to the Hanford Police Department, officers responded around 11 a.m. on March 15 to the area of 1836 W. Lacey Boulevard, near Pep Boys, after receiving reports of a suspicious male running through the parking lot and yelling at bystanders.
Witnesses told dispatch the man was also seen waving a firearm in the air while removing clothing items from his body.
Officers arrived and located the individual, later identified as 26 year old Cameron Jones, lying on the roof of a parked vehicle near the front of the Black Bear Diner restaurant. Police gave Jones verbal commands, which he followed, and he was detained and placed in handcuffs.
While searching the parking lot, officers located several items Jones had reportedly dropped, including a loaded 9 mm Smith & Wesson handgun.
Police said officers then conducted field sobriety tests to determine Jones’s level of intoxication. During the investigation, Jones allegedly kicked at the arresting officer.
Jones was taken into custody and arrested on several charges, including causing damage to a parked vehicle, being under the influence of a controlled substance, exhibiting a deadly weapon, carrying a loaded firearm in public, and attempting to assault an officer.
