Anthony, who has lived in Hanford’s Fargo Avenue area since 2021, addressed the council during the public comment session, describing hazardous traffic between 11th Avenue and Aspen. “In the Fargo areas became pretty dangerous for traffic,” he said, noting vehicles speeding at “about 55 miles an hour” in a zone with a 25-35 mph speed limit. He recounted a recent incident where “someone plow through my trash cans and completely demolish their mirrors because there’s nothing controlling the speed limit.” Anthony also reported “passing on the right-hand shoulder” and “plenty of accidents where two or three car pileups” occur due to drivers making turns. These conditions threaten residents in this busy Hanford neighborhood, a concern echoed in growing Central Valley cities.
Push for Traffic Calming Solutions
Anthony urged the council to implement measures to curb reckless driving. “Maybe some speed bumps or something at least where they can’t pass on the shoulder for the safety of those around,” he proposed, emphasizing the need to protect “neighbors or the, you know, citizens that have bought houses there.” He expressed concern about pedestrian safety, stating, “It’s a matter of time. Who knows? Maybe they hit a pedestrian. Maybe they kill someone else.” Anthony confirmed that “parking enforcement’s been out there before,” but no significant controls have been implemented.
