Fresno City Hall became the center of discussion Thursday as multiple city leaders addressed the candidacy of Rene Campos, a registered sex offender seeking the District 7 seat on the Fresno City Council.
Councilmember Annalisa Perea said the matter has drawn national attention and voiced concern about the prospect of someone with that background serving inside public government facilities. The issue has sparked debate within the community and led councilmembers to explore whether new policies could be introduced to restrict registered sex offenders from holding elected office.

Perea stressed that serving on the council includes engagement with schools and youth programs and said families should feel secure bringing their children into City Hall. She indicated she is collaborating with colleagues on potential legislative options.
Councilmember Miguel Arias likewise expressed concern about preserving City Hall as a safe and welcoming space for children and families who attend public meetings and civic events.
