Family Dollar Closing in Hanford; Dollar Tree to Remain Open
By Francisco “Real” Ramirez | April 16, 2025
Hanford, CA – The Family Dollar store located at 410 West 7th Street in Hanford is preparing to close its doors permanently. The store, which shares a location with Dollar Tree, is currently holding a liquidation sale offering 20% off some merchandise, with everything marked to go ahead of its scheduled closure on April 23, 2025.
The Hanford closure is part of a nationwide consolidation effort by Dollar Tree Inc., which owns the Family Dollar brand. Between 2024 and 2025, the company is in the process of shuttering nearly 1,000 Family Dollar locations across the country, as it shifts focus toward strengthening its core Dollar Tree operations.
While Dollar Tree Inc. has not provided a specific reason for closing the Hanford store, the move aligns with broader trends affecting the discount retail sector. Economic pressures, changing consumer habits, and increased competition have challenged many low-cost retailers in recent years. Family Dollar has also faced issues such as declining sales, inventory losses, and the aftermath of past regulatory fines, all of which have contributed to the company’s strategic downsizing.
Despite the closure of the Family Dollar section, the Dollar Tree portion of the Hanford location will remain open and continue serving the community. Dollar Tree stores have generally shown stronger performance, prompting the company to reallocate resources and streamline operations by exiting underperforming Family Dollar sites.
In March 2025, Dollar Tree announced it would sell Family Dollar to Brigade Capital Management and Macellum Capital Management in a $1 billion deal. The transition marks a major restructuring for the brand and is expected to be finalized later this year.
Hanford shoppers still have time to take advantage of the ongoing “everything must go” sale at the closing Family Dollar, with discounts expected to increase as the store nears its final days.
